Although my next major event isn’t until December it is officially time to start prepping! This year Jenna and I are flying down to the invitational, no not for the main agility event, but for the first AKC Junior Agility Competition. Recently I have been talking to many old and new junior handler friends who are also going down, so the event has been buzzing around in my head. But before every major event there is a fairly long preparation period, this time I’m looking at 18 weeks. These first few weeks are going to be dedicated to conditioning and skill drills, which we have been working on anyway. Jenna’s contacts are also almost finished with boot camp. We have 3 more weeks to go, before I know how we did. So far I am thrilled with the improvement, but we still have a long way to go. The next few weeks will really be about getting her fit again, right now her muscle mass isn’t as high as it could be. Jenna is fit but she can be fitter! And it should keep us on track for a peak in performance in December which is when I need it. Peaking her in October would do me no good, by the time of the competition we would have fallen back down.
Jenna’s prep is all laid out in her binder, but we still have to book flights and get a rental car :P I’m going down Thursday morning and going home Saturday night late, have to do school work on Sunday so unfortunately I can’t stay to watch the entire event. But I am just glad to go down and compete in the junior competition. Not only is it a great opportunity to test our skills at a larger event, it’s a great place to tests our contacts in a national like atmosphere! And I just love that the AKC is finally doing things for juniors. The real reason I want to go down is to prove that us juniors really do want these types of events and opportunities, so that even after I can no longer go that the next generation will have this event and hopefully others to attend.
