BIG GOALS and little things

Big goals are achieved by thinking small
Every day I think about my goals for Jenna. They aren’t about winning something, or beating someone, or being better at something than someone else. My goals for Jenna are simple and small, and they build on each other to create the overall goals that I have for us as a team. The overall goals are mine to change and add to. I can mold them into anything I want. This is something that I find priceless, the ability to alter goals as you grow and learn.
On the flip side, sticking to one’s goal is so important. Looking at a problem and giving up should never be the answer. Creating a goal that you truly feel is worth working towards is something everyone should do. Although I fear that very few people I know actually can set a goal and stick to it.
Obviously altering a goal is not the same as giving up, but the alterations should not make the goal easier to reach because that defeats the purpose of a goal. Goals should be placed just out of reach so you have to jump to get it and risk falling. Sports related goals are even more complex because they test physical and mental limits.  “Great athletes challenge every limit and ignore boundaries.” In agility both the dog and handler are athletes. Both need goals to reach and limits to break.
I do find it amazing that there are so many little things that need to be changed before a goal can be reached. There are tiny little issues that we conquer every time we train. If you can go out and ace everything you train on… then what your training isn’t hard enough. There should always be a challenge. Without a challenge those tiny issues that affect our goals will never be resolved…and in the end that prevents a goal from being reached. Think small and find the little things that can be fixed, so that you can reach your big goals.

Failure...

“The key to success is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm.”
in agility most of us fail daily…we fail on a sequence, we fail at training something, we fail at understanding something…but as trainers we go back to our mistakes and we fix, we try again, we try it a different way, we make our failures work for us. And that makes agility so much fun, if it was easy and it didn’t take time or effort agility wouldn’t be any fun at all.
Agility is a challenge. Any challenge that tests the mental and physical ability of two different creatures working together is going to lead to failure…a lot of failure! But its when we take the time to understand our failures and look at the positives of the trial or the trianing session instead of interalizing the negetives that is when we can reach success.

No agility...

I was on vacation this past week and i sliced my foot open on a zebra musscle. 6 stiches and like 10 other cuts up my leg :P  It doesn't really bother me that i got stiches...its just killing me that i can't do agility!!! Luckily we don't have a trial for 3 weeks (by then i will be fine) but im still out until next Wednesday...so like 5 training sessions (with multipe dogs) it sucks.
I can how ever train whimzy. Who is now deffinatly a 16" sheltie. She towers over Jenna!! I'm hoping that she will hit 15"-15" 1/2, but atleast she is over 14" 1/2...anyway puppy training. I worked her on the a-frame (just the bottom) with 2o2o drills and she was great. We also did a bit of weave work (weaves were open) and whimzy was off leash...she did great until she left the poles to go do a 2o2o on the a-frame! She was so proud of herself. I really like her foot work in the weaves she took to it like a duck to water!!! I am barely training them because she doesn't need work with it really, i do plan on re-visiting the entiry drills this week or the next just to re-fresh her memory.  I don't really know what else I'm gonna work with her this week, but she is the only one i can train so she is going to get puppy agility bootcamp!

Oh and back to the whole vacation thingy... Whimzy and Kenzie got to come with so...pictures :)

Whimzy likes blowing bubbles underwater...idk why.
Kenzie likes eating the bubbles...

Wierd but cute :)
