I wanna be like you.

Not too long ago I had a little girl tell me that she wanted to be just like me.

I know what my reaction should have been, "Aww, how sweet, thank you." or something along those lines...but honestly my first thought was "Why?". Why in the world would anyone want to be like me, for a long time I didn't even want to be like me. It's funny, I'm almost positive that at some point in time we all want to be like someone else; either because we seem inferior or because they seem superior. I once wanted to be all sorts of people, for all different reasons. Yet, now I find I'm proud of who I am and who I will become, and I know who I once was and where I've come from. So I fail to see why anyone would ever want to be like me. There already is a me, a me that's just like me.
So when that little girl told me she wanted to be just like me, I asked her why... "Why be like me if you could be like you?"

Someone new, someone the world has never seen before, someone who can do incredible things. Trying to be like someone else is like trying to be normal. I've spent most of my life now being abnormal, and I've found its people who are different who make a difference. I hope that one day that little girl is proud to be different and I hope she makes a difference. I hope that anyone who's ever wanted to be someone becomes the someone that they were all along.

Normal isn't something to aspire to, it's something to get away from.

Puzzling.

We are always in such a rush, always on our way to the next thing with somewhere to be. We never slow down for anyone or anything, I  guess that's just another reason why we are the human race.

I feel as though we spend so much time looking forward, at what's next, that sometimes we over look what we are working on today. Now, I'm always for looking at the "big picture", but part of that is understanding how each day of the journey comes together. You can't put a puzzle together by simply staring at the finished product on the box, you have to examine each piece and discover the unique connection it shares with the others. All the progress and all the mistakes are part of building the future we want ourselves to live into. More than ever I feel as though each dog I encounter is simply another puzzle to be pieced together. It takes time, patience, and a solid view of the "big picture" to try and figure out how all those strange shapes can come together to form something so beautiful.

Whimzy's Journey

I am simply beyond in love with this creature.

I spent a long time wondering about our future together when she was younger, wondering where we would go, how we would evolve as a team...but I've found over the past year that with Whimzy, it isn't about planning out a big complicated path to success. With her everything just falls into place when it needs to, we can take it one course at a time. No matter how many faults we earn on any given course it never impacts how we do on the next course. Every step we take together I'm thrilled to spend with such a special little girl, I'm not sure where we are going or how fast we will get there...but this is a journey worth taking.
