Just start.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.

I believe that any dog, any handler, any team can be great. You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great. It isn’t enough to talk the talk; you have to walk the walk. Nothing’s going to change until you put time and effort into it.  A lot of people think that great dogs just “happen”, that somehow they are just better than the rest. This is, thankfully, not the case. Great dogs are made; every truly amazing dog has had a problem, an issue that had to be worked through. No dog is perfect. What the rest of us see in a great dog, is a team who has spent hours and years perfecting their teamwork, their communication, their bond.

You’re right. It’s easier to say “screw it. I give up.” Then to say “screw this. I can do it.” I never said it would be easy….I said it would be worth it.

No dog is worthless.
Your dog is worth it, you owe it to them to put the time and effort in. You aren’t perfect; you can’t ask them to be either.  If you want to see progress, improvements, if you want to be great, then the time has come for you to start. Stop dreaming and start working towards your dream. Great things come to those who work their asses off and never ever ever give up.
