Whimzy is one of those dogs who constantly reminds me why I
play the game. Why I train. Why I practice. Why I show. Why I have made agility
part of my life.
If you look at our Q-record you’ll know it’s not because of “all
our wins”, all our nonexistent double-Qs, or anything of the sort. The reason I play is because of her… and
Jenna, and Nikki, and Zaiden, and Astro, and Kenzie, and Rigby, and all the
other dogs that I've had the honor to run and train. Because they give me a
reason to better myself, a reason to laugh, and a reason to remember that the
best moments aren't about reaching the “end”, but enjoying the journey.
Today I had the opportunity to save a run, get a Q, possibly
place…but something about the moment felt like it was worth savoring. Watching
Whimzy bounce a few dozen times past the tunnel entrance in Steeplechase was
just hysterical. Every time I said tunnel she yelled back in protest and
confusion. We finished the run overtime, but it was still a fun run, a fast
run, a run with good contacts, a run with good jumping, and a run that I’ll be
able to look back on and smile. Whimzy reminded me that those are the moments
that make a team. When you can come off a mess of a run and still feel great
about it. It isn't the Q that matters, it’s the little things that you take out
of each run that help you progress.
