The other day a friend reminded me that there were only four
more months till world team tryouts…a very scary though considering AKC
Nationals are a month before that even. Sure we have our courses and I have
been working skill drills like mad, but I hardly feel ready to walk into two
highly competitive national events. Part of it is that Jenna has the skills to
handle most challenges now, so training is easier. We work through some things,
look for the tightest lines and such, but unless I screw up she usually does it
right. In the past particularly last year each training session was a battle,
running clean was rare, and a “pretty” run wasn’t in our vocabulary.
I now feel like that with Whimzy, some runs are nice, but
never pretty. We battle our way through sections of courses, and I screw up
constantly in my handling. Considering Whimzy was just 13 months on Friday the
13th, I’m pretty damn happy with where she is. Never really pictured
myself in the 16” or 18” class yet here I am with a “giant”, in my eyes anyway,
sheltie who is about ready to show. Funny
how things work out, I wanted to be in the same jump height…now I’m glad Whimzy
won’t be competing against her sister haha.
