Belief Systems...

Some people believe in Religion. Some people believe in science. Some people believe in running contacts, others believe in stuck. Some people believe in me, others don’t. That’s all fine and dandy, I don’t really care which one you pick. The only belief that I really put stock into is the ability to believe in yourself. I know that sounds kind of cliché. But I don’t. Or didn’t or really I’m not sure. I never picture myself at the top of the pack, doing the best, or being the best out of everyone. Not because I don’t think my dogs have the potential, but because I guess I don’t believe I can get there. Jenna and I, in particular, have always been 2nd class athletes in my mind. Possibly because others rate us there, so I’ve become comfortable with that image. But that’s not right. That is a comfort zone that I simply shouldn’t allow myself to settle.

Diane always raised me to be humble, especially while regarding my accomplishments in agility. But I’m starting to find there is a difference between being proud of you achievements and confident that you can do great and being egotistical and snobby.

“If you think you are beaten, you are
If you think that you dare not, you don’t
If you’d like to win, but you think you can’t,
It’s almost certain you won’t.
If you think you’ll lose, you’ve lost
For out in the world you’ll find
Success begins with a fellows will.
It’s all in the state of mind.
Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man;
But sooner or later the man who wins
Is the man who thinks he can.”
~Arnold Palmer
