If you cannot win, make the one ahead of you break the
record.
Whimzy and I have the privilege of running against some of
the fastest and best teams every weekend. Last Saturday we were fourth and
second, what a rush it was. In jumpers there
were four dogs within four-tenths of each other, simply incredible. I am so
lucky to play in such a competitive crowd. We can push each other; it is a
balance that allows for some awesome run-offs, super close times in the ribbons,
and blistering yards per second. This, this is why I love showing.
I firmly believe two things: First, that we run against ourselves,
we are our own true competition. And secondly, that in order to know how hard
we can push, we must be pushed. There is joy in posting a personal best, but
there is a valuable learning experience when your best gets beat. At the end of
the day, your best is your best, but either it was enough or it wasn't. Knowing
why is what makes the difference, it brings us to our new level of best. Can't help
but say thank you to my fellow competitors for that, there is rarely a moment
when I can't find something to learn from in a weekend.
Be thankful for your competition, they're the ones who push
you beyond your best.
