AKC National Agility Championship 2014

With the AKC National Agility Championships coming to a close yesterday, I couldn’t be happier with our performance. My girls and I went 11/12 runs clean in the tournament, and I feel so confident after this weekend in our ability to lay down clean runs one after another.

Nikki ended the weekend with 4 clean runs and a spot in finals and a 2nd place finish in P20” after holding the hot seat till the last dog. This dog has come so far from the stressed out dog I had in novice three years ago. I wasn’t quite sure how she was going to handle the finals environment but she stayed focused and connected 100% of the way. Goes to show that any dog can be amazing, I can’t thank Nikki enough for showing me that once again.

As for the shelties, Jenna gave me three flawless runs as always. Ended up 23rd, just a few spots out of finals. Which was a valuable lesson for our next tournaments though, I’ll need to crank her up a few more notches here in the next month. I am so beyond proud of the baby Whimzy, she held her own in a super competitive 16” class for two rounds holding in the top 15 dogs. Unfortunately a poor handling choice on my part gave us a fault in Hybrid. I was not really expecting a finals spot from her the first year, but it was nice to see how practical of a goal that will be for the future. I found our foundation held up beautifully throughout the weekend; solid start lines, fast stuck contacts, great jumping, and no deterioration with our weave pole skills. I couldn’t ask for more from a young dog at her first national competition. We’ve also found a lot of skills to add to our “tool box”, that I simply just haven’t trained yet. Looking forward to improvement this next month, and then off to Hopkins, Minnesota with Jenna and Whimzy!
